DETROIT — It was the first "homecoming" for Fred Snowden and his University of Arizona basketball team and probably the last.
The reasons for that are varied. Certainly losing 70-68 on a last-seconds shot to the University of Detroit Saturday night had its effect. Being knocked from the undefeated ranks had its effect, too, as the eighth-ranked Wildcats fall to 7-1. Detroit is now 6-1 and winner of five games in a row.
"We've established the program now at Arizona and because we did it mostly with Michigan players, I felt we owed their parents a chance to see their sons play one college game," said Snowden. "Now we've brought the kids back to Detroit and their parents have seen them. "But that's it, that's the last time I bring them in to the play the University of Detroit."
