Elliott's big night leads Arizona to easy win

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — It'll be a long time before they forget Bob Elliott at Purdue University. The 6-foot-10, 225-pound senior forward for the University of Arizona has only played twice in his career against the Boilermakers, and both times he was, appropriately enough, steaming hot.

As a sophomore in the National Commissioner's Invitational Tourney, Elliott scored 30 points to lead UA to a 102-96 victory over Purdue. But he was even more awesome last night against the Boilermakers on their home court.

He "only" scored 22 points this time, but had 20 rebounds in leading the 14th-ranked Wildcats (8-1) to a surprisingly easy 85-76 win over Purdue (4-3).

"Elliott was superb tonight," said UA coach Fred Snowden. "He took everything off the glass and dominated the game inside . . . He didn't try to muscle as much. He played his game. .And he boarded tonight like I've never seen him board."

University of Arizona reserve center Brian Jung blocks the shot by Purdue's Wayne Walls, but he does it illegally by going through the net and inside the rim of the basket. No goaltending was called on the play as UA defeated Purdue in West Lafayette, Ind., last night, 85-76.
