Arizona Edges Loyola, 52-51;
Meet Frosh Cagemen Tonight

By BILL LUCAS

The University of Arizona Wildcats opened their cage season last night with a breath-taking 52-51 win over Loyola of Los Angeles. The Cats led 30-19 at the half and appeared to be on the road to a not-too-hard victory when the Lions staged a strong finish that all but tore-the game out of the Wildcat's grasp.

Tonight the Cats will face the UA frosh who last night subdued Davls-Monthan, 48-32. The varsity game is slated for 8:30 p.m. with the Barbs. Intramural champs, and Delta Chi, runner-up, slated to tangle In the preliminary game at 6:45 p.m.

Guard Art Carroll flipped in 12 points while Forward Bob Honea followed with 11. Honea helped matters along with baskets in the closing minutes of play when Loyola moved Into a threatening position.

Glick Held In Check
Pacing the coast five was Forward Bill Donovan who accounted for 24 points. 14 of which were caged in the second half, Norman Glick. Loyola's 6-foot 81/2-inch center, was held to one field goal and three foul tosses.

Center Junior Crum, who caged nine Arizona points, fouled out after seven minutes of the second half and following his departure the Cats had greater trouble on taking rebounds. Leo Johnson, Arizona guard, and two Loyola players Forward Johnny Arndt, and Glick fouled out later In the second half.

It was a long-range heave by Arndt that brought the Lions within one point of the Cats at 52-51 with 35 seconds remaining. Guard Bob Wade missed two free throws which cost Loyola its last chance to tie or win the game as the Cats held onto the ball for the final 30 seconds.

If Arizona looked a bit shaky It was because it was the Cats first game of the season whereas the Invaders came here with three games under their belts and loaded for bear.

Honea Looks Good
The work of Honea was one of the most encouraging features of the evening. Forward Leon Blevins, held to seven points, gave a good exhibition of ball handling.

Pacing the frosh in their victory were Horney Themas and Chief Gutierrez with nine point each while Bob Bailey accumulated nine for the Airmen.
