Easy Win Over Navymen Warmup For Friday Tilt At Douglas
By SKIBO McKAY

Completely outshining their performance of the night before the University of Arizona Wildcats ended a two-game basketball sweep over the Navy air fleet of San Diego here last Saturday night, winning 88-50.
The tilt was the 53rd win in a row for Fred Enke's defending Border conference champs and a warmup for Culver-Stockton college Friday night at Douglas.
Culver-Stockton is a small coed college In Canton, Mo. Its enroll ment of 235 men is not much larger than the university's fraternity, Sigma Chi. Geographically the school is in the Missouri college athletic union where last season it turned in an over-all record of 16 wins and 10 defeats. The team's mascot is the Wildcat and athletic director, W. A. Hcrrington, coaches the quintet.
Johnsons Show Way
Two Johnsons, a pair of guards thus far have led Arizona to its first two wins of the 1949-50 campaign. Roger led the Friday night game with 15 markers in a 54-41 victory. Saturday night Leo took his turn with 19 on eight field goals and three for three charity tosses.
Second place scoring honors went to Forward Bill Grosvenor of the Navy airmen with 17. Leon Blevins, showing signs of his great variated ball handling and scoring that inked him in the blue book of last year's Border league stars, tallied 16 for the Wildcats.
Arizona was never behind nor tied in the game. Center Paul Penner, who has the makings for a good season, chalked up the first two points and reserve Guard Jack Voorhies made the final point, a free throw.
Used Many Reserves
Regardless of the runaway victory Coach Enke had no plans at any time to build up the score, if he had the outcome could easily have been more convincing. As it was he played his reserves 16 of the 40 minutes.
He shot in a new crop of men after 13 minutes of the first half when the score was 34-17. At that time the reserves were Kenny Trout, Bruce Larson, Jim Dunlap, George Greene and Voorhies. This group held on to outscore the fleetmen 13 to 11 points and end the half with Arizona on top, 47-28.
The first stringers of Bob Honea, Blevlns, Penner and the Johnsons began the second 20 minutes of play only to be relieved when Enke started to clean the bench after 11 minutes with the score, 75-37.
Guard Bob Tyan's field goal in the last second gave university freshmen a 46-44 win over the intramural All-Stars in the preliminary game. Bill Kemmeries; Bruce Gilliland and Oscar Bueno all collected eight points for the winners and for the second straight night Bob Gates led the All-Stars with 10 points. The night before Gates made 10 points to pace his team to a 56-42 win over the Wildkittens.
